OCS Scholarship Application

OCS Program Scholarship Application

Olympia Community Sailing (OCS) will provide financial aid services for any youth ages 8-18 who desires to participate in OCS programming (Race Teams), or any youth/junior sailor who desires to participate in a hosted clinic/event and is eligible to do so, and also meets the qualifying financial need criteria, within the available resources of the OCS Scholarship Fund. Financial assistance may be used for Race Team dues, gear purchase, and/or clinic/event fees. Being a not-for-profit organization, we depend on program fees and donations as well as volunteers to sustain the program. We urge all applicants to be honest on application paperwork in order to help us distribute scholarship funds to as many qualifying youth as possible. Scholarship funds are limited and as such are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Application Instructions

Please submit the form below and send all additional materials to ED Sarah Hanavan at least two weeks prior to the event. Our scholarship committee will review your application and respond within five business days. Submitting an application should not be considered approval of a scholarship award.

All applications are confidential and information will only be shared within the committee.

Please submit verification of income to Sarah Hanavan (executivedirector@olympiacommunitysailing.org)

Scholarship Cycle

The OCS scholarship cycle is based on the Olympia School District school year and runs September through September. Applications will remain on file through the following September.

If recipients want to enroll in additional programs during the same financial aid cycle they do not need to fill out an additional application unless circumstances have changed. Recipients will be awarded additional funds as available. Email ED Sarah Hanavan to request additional funds.

Eligibility

Scholarships will be awarded based upon financial need and available funds. Scholarships are offered on a sliding scale from 25-100% of program fees.

  • Applications must be complete to be considered. A complete application includes the application form and any requested documentation. Full disclosure of income verification is required.

  • Assistance will be granted on the basis of demonstrated financial need and available funds. Need is determined through household size, total household income, and any extenuating circumstances disclosed in the application.

Financial Aid Expectations and Guidelines

  • If financial assistance is awarded, please submit a thank you note after participating! We use these to encourage our wonderful donors and secure scholarship funds for future students. Photos are encouraged.

  • An application does not reserve a space on a team or at an event/clinic. A space is reserved only after registration is completed.

  • Financial assistance participants have the same privileges as a full-paying participant, and are expected to abide by the same policies and rules every participant accepts when using the facility or participating programs.

  • Financial assistance is temporary and registration must be completed within two weeks of financial assistance approval. At that time, funds will be released to other applicants and may not be available.

  • Funds for classes or programs may be requested, but approval will depend on the status of the scholarship fund.
