c420 Race Team
Summer Season | Winter Season
c420s are thrilling Olympic Development boats. With a spinnaker and trapeze, the c420 combines the fun of doublehanded sailing with advanced techniques and speed!
The OCS c420 Race Team is designed for experienced sailors who want the challenge of an advanced boat but love doublehanded sailing. This team competes regularly throughout the PNW and also travels to events in California and along the East Coast.
FAQs
Practice
OCS c420 Race Team practices 3 days a week in the summer and 1-2 days a week in the winter out of the Olympia Yacht Club. See the current season's practice information in the footer below.
Regattas
c420 Race Team sailors will get the opportunity to travel throughout the PNW for competitions under the Northwest Youth Racing Circuit. The OCS c420 Race Team also travels nationally to events in California and along the East Coast.
How to Join
Sailors that have raced on the OCS Junior Varsity or High School Varsity team for at least one year (or have equivalent racing experience) can join the OCS c420 Race Team. OCS offers a c420 bootcamp and clinic every spring to teach the basics of spinnaker and trapeze work before sailors compete. Participation in the bootcamp is required for sailors without prior c420 racing experience. Sailors on the c420 Race Team team must demonstrate the work ethic, maturity, and skill needed to be a good team player.
Scholarships
Olympia Community Sailing runs many programs throughout the year, including our Race Teams. Our goal is always to operate at cost, keeping fees/dues as low as we can. Any profit goes directly back into maintenance, boat replacement, scholarship funds, etc.
One way to look at costs is to consider the length (number of hours) you’ll be sailing with us and divide the cost by that number. Typically the hourly rate for a sailor to be here is less than your average baby sitter and commiserate team sports.
…Don’t let costs be a barrier!
Scholarships, sibling rates, and payment plans are all available. We have assisted many families with loaning or purchasing gear, reduced rates, scholarships for both Summer Camps AND our competitive after school and summer Race Teams.
